Pantry
Description
At Camp Tawingo, our skilled and dedicated kitchen staff prepare THREE delicious and nutritious meals and one snack to almost 600 campers and staff every day. Meal time is the biggest ALL-CAMP program at Tawingo and it happens 3 times every day.
We pride ourselves on making Camp a safe, fun, and healthy place for every camper. We take the time to get to know the campers and other staff members by name, we are diligent about making sure each person who requires a special meal (because of allergies or intolerances) gets the meal that has been lovingly prepared specifically for them, and we are careful to keep a clean and safe Dining Hall and Kitchen - ensuring the health and safety of the entire camp community.
Camp Tawingo is known for our delicious food and campers and staff regularly show their appreciation for all that our Kitchen staff does to make Tawingo everyone’s home away from home.
Our Pantry team is responsible for salad preparations, condiments for every meal, preparing the Dining Hall for each meal, and tidying the Dining Hall after each meal. This job requires good organizational skills and constant cleaning/sanitizing of work stations. The Pantry team is always on the front lines assisting all campers and Counsellors.
Each day, 2 Cabins are given the responsibility of setting all of the tables in the Dining Hall for the three meals being served. Pantry staff is responsible for preparing a “Sample Table” and guiding the campers and supervising them during this process. Pantry staff will know what items are needed on the table based on the meal being served. You can make this fun by playing music, singing songs, and dancing while you’re working!
Each meal has its own set condiments that are needed. You need to be sure you have enough “backup” of all condiments prior to the meals starting.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Preparing salads
- Monitoring stock quantities
- Portioning condiments
- Assisting where needed throughout the day
- Assisting with overall meal preparation and service
- Maintaining a clean and healthy kitchen in accordance with the Ministry of Health standards and protocols
- Standing for long periods of time
During meal times, you will be required to assist campers and staff by directing them to where to place leftover food, where to get more food, where to place dirty dishes, etc. Campers and staff are always eager to come into the kitchen to chat with us and find out what the meal is. Pantry staff is responsible for monitoring the Dining Hall throughout the meal: ensuring the coffee/tea station is stocked and kept tidy, napkin holders remain full, salt & pepper shakers are full, garbages and recycling bins are in place, lined, and emptied when necessary, cloth buckets are in place and removed at the end of the meal, (please see Dining Hall Supervision duties attached).
Campers and Counsellors are always EAGER to have staff from all departments join into afternoon and evening programs! We strongly encourage you to join in when you are not busy in the Kitchen. This is a great way for you to feel a part of the camp community and make new friendships with staff from other departments!
